Prof Deborah Schrag Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center New York, USA

Since 2021, Deb Schrag has served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical School in New York City. Professor Schrag is a medical oncologist specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers with a particular emphasis on lower GI tract tumors, which include rectal, colon, and anal cancer. In the 20-plus years that she has cared for patients with these types of cancers, she has had the privilege to be a member of teams that have conducted foundational trials that have improved outcomes so that patients are living not only longer, but also better.

Recently, Dr. Schrag led a large national trial to streamline and personalize the way patients with locally advanced rectal cancer are treated and fundamentally to change our approach to the conduct of clinical trials more broadly by engaging patients in direct reporting of their experiences. She has pioneered development of systems to engage patients in direct reporting of their experiences.
