Prof Cihan Gani University Hospital Tübingen Tübingen, Germany

Cihan Gani is a radiation oncologist and professor at the University Hospital Tübingen, Department of Radiation Oncology, where he holds the positions of Deputy Medical Director and Head of the Clinical Trial Center. Prof. Gani received his medical education from the University of Tübingen in Germany and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. During his residency, he pursued advanced training as a post-doctoral fellow under the mentorship of Prof. Bristow at Princess Margaret Cancer Center, Toronto, Canada.

His primary research focus is on gastrointestinal malignancies. Prof. Gani served as the Principal Investigator in the multicenter CAO/ARO/AIO-16 trial, which investigated organ preservation with TNT in rectal cancer patients. Moreover, he is recognized for his expertise in MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy for upper gastrointestinal malignancies and rectal tumors.

Prof. Gani’s research endeavors have received substantial support from prestigious funding bodies, including the German Research Foundation (“DFG”). Most recently, his trial proposal for dose-escalated radiotherapy in rectal cancer was selected for an industry grant to conduct a worldwide randomized trial.

Prof. Gani has been awarded the ARO Clinical Trial Award and the “Hermann Holthusen Award” by the German Society of Radiation Oncology, the highest scientific award of the society.
