A/Prof Matthew Morgan Prince of Wales Private Hospital Australia

A/Professor Matthew Morgan is a colorectal surgeon with over 25 years of surgical experience working across South-West Sydney. He has a song-term interest in surgical research and surgical techniques.
He was a major contributor to the only multi-centre randomised trial of laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer (the Australasian laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer trial, ALCCaS), which compared two different surgical approaches (laparoscopic vs. open surgery) both in terms of short-term and long-term outcomes. He was also a contributor to the multi-centre RCT of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer (A La CaRT) and is a strong advocate of the benefits of laparoscopic surgery which include faster recovery and lower morbidity.
His surgical research interests have also included genetic predictors of tumour response to preoperative neoadjuvant therapy and systems for grading the pathological tumour response to such therapy.
He is currently extending the minimally invasive approach with the Da Vinci robot which adds 3D vision and more precision in more complex surgical procedures particularly in the pelvis.
