Early Career Researcher Award for Excellence in AGITG Research

The purpose of this Award is to foster career development and recognise an outstanding early-career clinician-researcher or translational scientist in the area of gastro-intestinal cancer.

The recipient will receive up to $2,000 to cover flights, accommodation, and registration to attend the next AGITG Annual Scientific Meeting.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant has received their PhD or MD within the last 5 years of the closing date of this award (subsequent years are ineligible) OR are currently studying as a PhD candidate;
  • Working part-time or full-time; and
  • Undertaking their research and/or clinical duties in Australia or New Zealand.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment criteria will be based on:

  • Candidate’s track record (40%);
  • Career Development Plan (20%);
  • Community Service to AGITG (20%); and
  • Supervisor’s/Head of Department’s recommendation letter (20%).

Please note: A letter of recommendation should be sent directly to agitg@gicancer.org.au by the Supervisor or Head of Department before the closing date. The letter sent to AGITG by the applicant will not be accepted.

Assessment of your application

Management of the application and assessment process is delegated to the Chief Executive Officer. The application will be reviewed by the AGITG ASM Executive Committee. The Committee may request additional information regarding the application.

The successful applicant will be announced at the 2024 AGITG ASM. The recipient may be invited to participate in a short video (1-2 minutes) on their research, as well as to present on the status of their research at a future AGITG ASM.

Closing Date 

Submissions will close on Monday 9 September 2024, 9:00am AEST. Late applications will not be considered.
